What Causes Anxiety?

by | May 27, 2020

What causes anxiety? Great question. Anxiety is not caused or developed by one thing, but rather a multitude of things. Many factors have a role such as life experiences, physical health and personality.

Genetic Predisposition

Anxiety conditions can run in families. However, just because there is a family member or parent that has experienced anxiety disorders or other mental health issues does not necessarily mean you will enviably develop anxiety.

Personality Traits

According to research, anxiety is more likely to happen to you if you have certain personality traits. For example, children that are shy, lack self-esteem, want to control things, easily flustered or are perfectionists, can develop anxiety during their childhood, adolescence or as adults.

  • Stressful Events
  • Some common triggers listed below may cause anxiety disorders.
  • Change of job or stress at work
  • Relationship or family issues
  • Living arrangements change
  • Pregnancy or giving birth
  • Emotional shock from a traumatic or stressful event
  • Abuse either sexual, verbal emotional or physical
  • Loss of a loved one

What Causes Anxiety?

Health problems

Anxiety can also be attributed to physical illness or the effect of treatment for the illness itself. Common chronic conditions that are linked to anxiety are:

  • Asthma
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease and hypertension

Physical issues can sometimes appear as anxiety such as an overactive thyroid. It is important to see your healthcare provider to assess whether you may or may not have a medical cause for your anxiety.

More Mental Health Conditions

For some, anxiety can be a problem on its own, while others experience many anxiety conditions or other mental health issues such as depression, as often times they happen together.

Use of Substances

Many times, people that suffer from anxiety turn to self-medication such as drugs and alcohol to help manage their anxiety. This can easily lead to substance abuse and become addictive, now causing yet another problem. Substance use and alcohol can actually make anxiety conditions worse, especially when the substance begins to wear off. If this is happening to you, it is vitally important to get help.

CBD Oil for Anxiety

THC free CBD oil has been a welcoming booming alternative for calming anxiety. Cannabidiol oil (CBD) is not the same as cannabis oil, says Justin Elenburg; founder of Patriot Supreme. Although both come from the same species of plant, they are entirely different and categorized under different laws.

CBD oil does not contain the psychotropic effects of THC. In other words, it contains negligible amounts of THC, and it’s known to alleviate anxiety, pain and inflammation without getting you high, Elenburg explains. For more information about Patriot Supreme pure CBD oil click here.

Remember, we are all different and often times it is a combination of issues that can cause an anxiety disorder. Know that you cannot always find the reason for your anxiety or even change a hard situation. Most important is to realize the symptoms and get some support and advice.
